Three elements on 121.5 and four on 243 MHz give a gain 3 to 4 dB greater than the standard antenna when the DF is in the RECeive (signal strength) mode. The beam will not give left-right homing, but two LHBA antennas can be used to improve sensitivity of the LIF-10 Interferometer.  (Note: Do not combine one beam and one normal crossbar on the two interferometer masts).  This beam fits on either the standard long mast (LHM-1) (shown above) which folds quickly to 26" long for storage or the 13 in. accessory short mast (LHM-2). Either  will fit in the LCC-1 carrying case. We recommended the long mast for best performance but new long masts are no longer available.   Some groups have adopted telescoping painter’s poles for this purpose.
